Manatees compromise three of the four living species in the order Sirenia. The Serinia are thought to have evolved from four-legged land mammals more than 60 million years ago with the closest living relatives being elephants and hyraxes.
The Amazonian/s hair color is brown or grey. They have thick wrinkled skin with coarse hair, or "whiskers". Photos of this species are rare and very little is known of this species besides scientists thinking they may be closest related to the West indian manatees. |
